ABSTRACT
Visual processes, whether biological or artificial, are affected in important ways by adaptation and learning. This is true for all levels of visual functioning, from early visual encoding to complex pattern recognition. In the present paper, we discuss learning models of current interest in pattern recognition and in image understanding. Where possible, we indicate how these models may be useful in understanding human perceptual learning.
