Project in the EUTIST-IMV
(www.spt.fi/eutist/) cluster, EUTIST Paper, Topcapi
Topcapi project is
developing an automatic real-time surface inspection system for paper production
process control.
The software recognizes
even complex defects such as sieve joints, large-scale irregularities in
the formation, or low-contrast mat areas, as well as compound defects.
Standard defects such as holes, spots, streaks and edge cracks are no longer
simply identified by size, but described in detail with a wide range of
features. Conditions specific to certain machines and paper types can easily
be considered.
New types of defects
are identified accordingly, reported and stored. After the video images
have been evaluated by the paper manufacturer, they are used to train the
system to recognize new classes of defects. The HTP 4 system, with ist
self-learning
classifier, therefore becomes an expert for the respective paper machine.
Unlike earlier inspection
systems, the HTP 4 can automatically classify defects (e.g. holes) by their
cause. The manufacturer can then take immediate action, thus avoiding further
waste.
