Biographical Sketch MASSEN machine vision systems GbmH
MASSEN now is a company of 30 people, mainly university-level vision experts, and has reached a strong position in industrial surface inspection tasks, especially for monitoring the aesthetical appearance of products in the production line.
MASSEN has permanently some of its engineers working as part-time PhD students on topics such as:
a) Measuring appearance by simulating human perception and recognition processes
b) Multivariate image processing for surface inspection tasks
c) extremely lowcost 3D digitiser for human body shape capturing
MASSEN GmbH is currently participating to the EC EUROSHOE project , developing a 3D digitiser for foot scanning in the aim of shoe mass-customisation.

Robert Massen is the managing director of MASSEN machine vision systems GmbH. He is also a professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Applied Sciences, Konstanz, Germany, researching and lecturing on industrial vision systems, pattern recognition, and multimedia. He has a large record of publications on application-specific aspects of vision systems and he owns more the 30 patents on this subject.
MASSEN machine vision system was founded by Prof. Dr.Ing. Massen in 1992 through a management buy-out from the former Steinbeis Transfer Centre Constance for Image Processing. The Transfer Centre was a for-profit institute founded by Robert Massen in 1984 and engaged in project-founded developments of advanced industrial vision systems.
