Workshops

We will be organizing a series of topical workshops over the coming months. The topics will be based on the interest of the members as indicated by the results of a recent questionnaire.

There are (at least) two different models of how one should run a workshop:

  1. a mini-conference, involving a call for papers, and with a proceedings as one of the outcomes of the meeting;
  2. a brain-storming session, with open participation, and with a white paper as one of the outcomes.
euCognition workshops should in general be smaller interactive semi-structured brainstorming sessions, leading ideally to some kind of position statement or white paper. The workshop should be open to anyone interested in the topic of the meeting and not just members of euCognition.

Keynote speakers are not essential and, if invited, their presentation should be reasonably short, focused, and perhaps controversial. The goal would be to set the tone and fuel the debate, but not to provide any (preemptive) answers.

On the other hand, flexibility is essential and if someone wishes to organize a workshop, she or he should have the freedom to adopt the model they prefer.
