I am a research professor at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, Rwanda, where I head the Robotics Lab and teach several courses on robotics and cognitive systems.
I went to school at St. Luke's National School, Cork, Ireland, until 1969, and then Midleton College, Co. Cork, Ireland, until 1975. I graduated with B.A. and B.A.I. degrees in engineering from Trinity College Dublin in 1979, and joined Westinghouse Electric as a software engineer. I completed a Ph.D. at Trinity College Dublin in 1985 and was elected a Fellow in 1991.
Over the past forty-five years, I've had the privilege of working for some great organizations in Africa, Europe, Middle East, Russia, and USA.
I am a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, Life Senior Member of the IEEE, Research Fellow at the Kigali Collaborative Research Centre, Rwanda, co-chair of the IEEE RAS Technical Committee for Cognitive Robotics, an associate editor of Cognitive Systems Research, and a series editor of Cognitive Systems Monographs published by Springer.
I am a keen road cyclist and a terrible mountain biker.
