Here are some links to to resources that are relevant to my course on Artificial Cognitive Systems on my main website. I keep this material here on the wiki to make sure it is current and up-to-date.

Videos

Elizabeth Spelke's talk the inaugural meeting of the European Network for Artificial Cognitive Systems

Surveys

Comparative Repository of Cognitive Architectures
Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures Society (BICA) comparison of 25 cognitive architectures

A Survey of Cognitive and Agent Architectures
University of Michigan survey of (mostly cognitivist) cognitive architectures

A Framework for Comparing Agent Architectures
Aaron Sloman and Matthias Scheutz, Proceedings UKCI'02, UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence, 2002

Educational Resources

Course on Cognitive Architectures
This module is part of a course on computation and cognition given by Charles F. Schmidt, Rutgers University. It gives a particularly useful introduction to production system cognitivist cognitive architectures.

Cognitive Systems Outreach
This project is a network action funded by euCognition - The European Network for the Advancement of Artificial Cognitive Systems. It is coordinated by Joanna Bryson, University of Bath, UK.

Definitions of Cognition

Definitions of Cognition
It has proved difficult to define cognition (and some argue that it isn't worth trying). Here is a list of over 40 definitions which were contributed by members of euCognition - the European Network for the Advancement of Artificial Cognitive Systems - in response to a questionnaire.

For comparison, here is the definition of a cognitive system that is being adopted by the Springer Reference Guide to Computer Vision.

White Papers

Action selection for Intelligent Systems
This is a popular white paper contributed by Cyril Brom, Charles University, Prague, and Joanna Bryson, University of Bath, UK, to euCognition - The European Network for the Advancement of Artificial Cognitive Systems.

Tutorials and Resources

Tutorial on Embodiment
The title of this tutorial doesn't do justice to the breadth of its coverage of cognition and cognitive systems. It provides a wide-ranging summary of the main aspects of this discipline, from cognitivist AI right through to embodied emergent cognition. It's edited by Matej Hoffmann, Dorit Assaf, and Rolf Pfeifer at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Department of Informatics, University of Zurich

Embodiment Resources

Situated / Embedded / Extended Cognition Resources

Research Networks and Societies

euCognition
European Network for the Advancement of Artificial Cognitive Systems. This network was the first in a series of three networks, culminating in EUCog III below.

EUCog III
European Network for the Advancement of Artificial Cognitive Systems, Interaction and Robotics

BICA Society
Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures Society
